British Academy welcomes Government’s Science and Innovation Strategy

17 Dec 2014

The British Academy has given a positive welcome to the Government’s emphasis on the strategic importance of investing in academic research, set out in its Science and Innovation Strategy, published today.

Academy Vice-President Professor Roger Kain said: “It’s very good to see this clear Government recognition of the vital connection between long-term investment in all areas of science and research in British universities and the UK’s future growth and prosperity.

“The British Academy has long argued that in today’s knowledge economy, where the service sector dominates, and creative industries flourish as never before, innovation and growth increasingly spring from the UK’s ability to exploit research and new ideas drawn from humanities and social science disciplines. The argument for increasing current levels of investment could not be clearer.”
