David Hand discusses Measurement

Professor David J Hand FBA talks about his new book, Measurement: A Very Short Introduction (published 2016, Oxford University Press).

He talks about the historical development of measurement - from our early need to measure the physical world, to the measurement of less concrete social concepts. And there is a discussion of our schizophrenic attitude to measurement and statistics.
