About the Art at the British Academy

The art on display at the British Academy has grown from a wide range of sources. A large number of the portraits are on loan from the National Portrait Gallery. Artists have also lent work to the Academy and others, such as Patrick Hughes and Tom Phillips, have made generous gifts. Art collector and Fellow of the British Academy, Professor Ray Pahl donated 23 canvases including paintings by Sir Terry Frost. In addition, the Academy has been able to purchase work such as prints by Gillian Ayres, Joe Tilson and John Hoyland, ceramics by David Frith and Carolyn Genders, and textiles by Helen Yardley. These pieces can be seen when attending events held at the Academy or by appointment. To find out more please contact Karen Syrett, k.syrett@britac.ac.uk.
